Argentinean-born Dina Gonzalez Mascaro blurs the boundaries of jewellery and sculpture. The co-owner of Vancouver’s hybrid gallery/store JewellerBau, she designs architecturally influenced rings that tidily sum up her ethos, cheekily titled "Sorry I’m not an Architect, Sorry I’m not a Jeweller." The rings are their own miniature landscapes, three-dimensional studies in twisted metal. "Sorry, were not athletes" is a very little and polite act of resistance to the THiNG that's happening in our town for two month and which will impact our life for years to come.
The Mount Pleasant BIA encouraged us to make an event in our place, for the Olympics. For the occasion we have made buttons that read: "sorry, we're not athletes" which will be offered to the audience.
The exhibition consists of 5 objects that fall somewhere between sculpture and jewellery...
5 melted bronze medallions speak to the huge melt-down in social (where is the housing?), cultural (where is arts funding?) and even climatic expectations (where is the snow?) etc, etc, etc. The work is a reflection upon the suffering that comes when mega-events are forced upon the city.

When I'm in my store I'm working on my things , and listening to radio.
IT Was on Q I heard my friend Lee Henderson talking with Jian Ghomeshi, about his new book "the man game".
Among many things they talked about a car...A Chrysler Dynasty... that Lee received from his grandmother...
The car appears in the first chapter.
Next day on the same program, they announced that that car was for sale and they gave Lee's number out on air.
Later, I met Lee at the party of a common friend... we talked about the book ,the car...
He said it is still for sale: the price is two dollars.
i borrowed 2 dollars from my friend and i bought it...
Monday december first Lee gave me the keys and papers...

We are so excited to participate in ONE OF THE KIND SHOW (Vancouver) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We hope this event will provide us with more exposure and let people know who I'm
what I do and
where they can find my studio...
At the same time the idea behind this venue sounds perfect with my production because
i REALLY do one of a kind things and I was in other fairs WHERE
you are exposed in a certain disadvantage competing with people who work with mass production
with big business where the cost of the objects are incompatible with a business like mine...
For this past month i trying to finish a New series of work done specially for this show.
These series are animals heads, but not your typical animals.
These animals heads are taken from works of very known painters, masters like Picasso,Lockner Durer.
These heads are an interpretation… i took animals from the 2-dimensional works and I converted them into 3-dimensional jewellery.
I think if people can compare an animal with the person who will receive the gift or what animal this people need i think it is the perfect choice for a special gift, plus for people who love paintings, it will be nice to have a chunk of some famous painting on your chest.

WherethePunks? is a show of photographs of houses that have been cut from Vancouver's fabric as "progress" makes its way through the city. Join us for the opening of A Bird in the Hand, a new show by leannej. A bird in the hand is a three-dimensional graphic story. Known for her flowchart installations, leannej combines her odd tendency to tell stories in boxes with her compulsive need to make small hand-sized sock birds. In A Bird in the Hand, she explores the various meanings of habitat and home in her large flow chart stories.

This is leannej's first three-dimensional show which features over 50 life-sized replicas of birds commonly found in British Columbia with a few rare exceptions. The text flow chart provides shelter and places for the small birds to perch. Each bird is hand made using only recycled socks and glass beads.

Leannej is a text based artist. She has been publishing and showing text based images in magazines and gallery spaces in Canada and the US. Her first book was published by Artspeak Gallery in 2002 and is available at www.artspeak.com . Texts in this show and bird images are also on view on her blog, Birds hate us. (JewellerBau) is the latest reincarnation of Gallery 42, owned and operated by artists Dina Gonzalez Mascaro and Joelle Ciona. They have completely remodeled their space to accommodate local and Argentine artists and showcase the sculptures and jewellery of Gonzalez Mascaro. The "Bau" in (JewellerBau) is an evolving sculpture of display niches inspired by Kurt Schwitters' merzbau installations of the 1920's.

The grand opening of (JewellerBau) is February 14h at 8pm.

I was born in Argentina, forty two years ago.
I have a masters in visual arts from the University of La Plata.
I'm a sculptor, painter and drawer.
I have been making jewellery since 1988.
For 6 years I'm living and working in Vancouver.
For 3 years I'm renting this space that before was Gallery42
and now is Jewellerbau, were I intend to show my series of work in silver,
sometimes in gold or another metals.
My stuff is waiting to find it's owners.
My objects are one of a kind, I never repeat a ring or object.
They deserve it (and i can't do it really i'm not a jeweller).
